Worm Gear-Driven Robotic Arm
Mechanical Design, Engineering Dynamics, Control Systems, Prototyping and Testing, Cost-Efficiency Analysis
A robotic arm incorporating worm gear drives and brushless motors with the aim to deliver a cost-effective, quieter, and lighter solution suitable for household applications.
The implementation of a worm-gear mechanism is multi-functional. By incorporating worm gears, we are able to incorporate the motors into the structure of the robotic arm itself, minimizing size and space utilized by the robotic arm. Additionally, a worm gear reduction is significantly quieter than a harmonic drive or planetary gearbox. Paired with a collection of brushless motors, we have a compact, strong and quiet robotic arm suitable for environments outside of the assembly line and in more organic environments.
